Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How old do you have to be to join the
SHFD?
A: There are a lot of ways for people of all ages to get involved and
serve their community.
JUNIOR FIREFIGHTER
Young men and women ages 16-18 can join as Junior Firefighters. They receive the same training, participate in drills and respond to calls but are not permitted to fight fires inside buildings. Feel free to contact Captain Bruce E. Quinn at bruce@snugharborfire.com for more information.
PROBATIONARY FIREFIGHTER
Those over 18 can start as probationary firefighters and after successfully completing the probationary firefighter program, become fully sworn firefighters. Feel free to contact Captain Bruce E. Quinn at bruce@snugharborfire.com if interested.
ASSOCIATION MEMBERS
For those interested in serving their community but chose not to become a line firefighter can become associate members. Associate members play a vital role in supporting the non-firefighting responsibilities of the Snug Harbor Volunteer Fire Company. Please contact President Hilly Munson at captsnug@snugharborfire.com for more information
LADIES AUXILIARY
The Ladies Auxiliary provide much needed support for both the line firefighters and association members. Not only do they provide an invaluable service during our fundraising activities, they provide nourishment and hydration at large fire scenes. Please contact SHLA President Elsie Hall for more information at rid25402@ride.ri.net.
Q: What is the time commitment for
volunteering?
A: The SHFD drills from 10a-12a on Sunday mornings and 7p-9p on
Wednesday evenings. We understand that everyone's lives are very
busy with familial and other personal commitments. We encourage
everyone to participate as much as they can.
